costochondritis-does anyone know about this? i
All I know is it causes pain upon breathing. I believe it's some kind of inflamation of the chest cavity or somewhere in there.
does anyone know about this? i think i might have it, any clues?

I had it several years ago from a chest tube. I had a collapsed lung and the tube they put in damaged some cartilage. Several years after that when I would try to do sit ups I would get severe pain like my lung was collapsing again. It was costachondritis. Inflamation of the costal area. They gave me vicodin and and anti inflamatory drugs and that helped but then i became addicted to the vicodin. If they ever want to give you drugs just take the anti-inflamatory meds..stay away from the pain killers..Lisa

HI
I was diagnosed with Costachronditis several years ago. But I must stress, in about two years, I was diagnosed with a heart condition that had similar symptoms.
You may want to see a cardiologist just to be sure.
Good Luck

Costochrondritis, specifically, is inflammation of the cartilage of your ribs. Usually it happens where your ribs attach to either the spinal canal in the back or the sternum in the front.
You wouldn't see a cardiologist for something like this--rather, a chest specialist..i.e. a respirologist (pulmonologist).

Hello
My Pulmonologist who found that I had Costrochronitis was the same doctor who suggested I see a cardiologist.

that's strange that you were told to see a cardiologist. Maybe it was to rule out some type of cardiac problem, though I don't see why else. Lungs and the chest wall are the realm of the respirologist.
