Torn Bicep muscle -Possible causes-lifting heavy


ET----have it all checked out. i had horrible bicept pain. do alot of overhead lifting of 50 at work. all dr. said it was my neck which is bad. finally MRI of shoulder showed a nice impingement in my rotator cuff. took me 5 mos for a dx. Possible causes-lifting heavy boxes up to attic, pusshing and pulling items and boxes into piles, brother incident where he twisted my arm, lifted mini weights and did push upss/pull ups
I can't say what exact event caused this to happen or make it worse but here's where I'm at with it now.:

I noticed that my arm was more achy than usual.
Sunday sept. 17 I reached up in a bad position to avoid problems and instead caused them...had intense escrutiating pain in right biceps...
I've tried my best not to use that arm and instead my left and now everything feels achy and bad..course to be expected
Thurs. saw gen. doc who tested arm pushed pulled figured out what hurt and when...have line of lumps of muscle from about elbow to arm pit and arm is in pain and has been all weekend..and he discovered that some part of my shoulder moves when it shouldn't so he figured its a torn bicep...have an appt with an orthopedic thursd but want to know what to do or not do...I'm going to put it in a sling sometimes when I can...I cleaned my tub (bad idea) but I soaked in it and felt better. Right now the bad arm's hand is coldish which is actually normal for me but not when the left one is warm. any suggestions whould be great thanks

I've been hearing stories similar to that, and I know from my allied health education that the longer its put off the more damage it could do...possibly irreversible. If I see this ortho person and they simply say to put it in a sling and go home should I straight out ask for additional tests or should I go see someone else? Forgive me I like to be prepared just in case. :)

ET ||| ET----i'm with you . i like to be prepared. don't have a whole lot of time for bull or to be put off. i also strained my left arm for years.started in the bicep with muscular tendonitis that i would nurse with ice and heat for weeks. finally did damage to shoulder and neck from the continual lifting. it's sad that you have to work to survive and then yur job does this to you. my EMG states that there is definite weakness in the bicep and tricep. supposedly this comes from the neck. i'm not convinced that all of it is coming from my neck since i have this impingement in my shoulder. i would like to fix one at a time. surgery doesn't scare me but the thought of fusions and hardware in my neck leaves me weak in the knees. it will be my last reort and won't be done unless i am in a danger zone. spine specialist tells me my neck will have to be watched for life.
